"Tumbling Tumbleweeds"
Painted Paper Collage
Painted Paper Collage
Now on view at the Shanley House for the Granbury Juried Fall Festival Art Show and Sale, September 24-October 28. The reception was Saturday, September 25 and some surprising news. The above mixed media longhorn collage received an Award of Excellence, accompanied with a nice cash prize and a medal. Thank you. And thanks to my fellow, Canvas by Canvas painter friend, Connie for letting me use her fabulous longhorn photo. The Shanley House Gallery is located at 224 No. Travis, Granbury, TX. Art from the show can be viewed online HERE.
"Texas Tabasco" is one of my favorite Canvas by Canvas longhorn paintings and all 8 of us were photographing longhorns at every opportunity for some longhorn paintings. We have found when the animals are intent upon grazing little can distract them, yodeling, whistling, and all the hey-you's don't matter in the least. The Shanley House show judge said that "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" has personality and Connie, I've always loved that photo and thanks again for letting me use it. I don't know how you got his attention but you did good.
I received a Facebook Message from Chroma's Artists' Paints & Mediums that I was one of three August 2010 winners of their Jo Sonja Vintage Color Collection. I think these colors will make awesome painted paper collages with names like Cobblestone, Sea Grass, Russet, Husk, and Tarragon. The winners of the contest were randomly selected and chosen from comments made on the Chroma's Artists Facebook page. Thanks again Chroma for the gift.

I love this one, composition is great and I love the colours used. collages are normally not on the top of my list, there are simply plenty of collages that just don't work for me - but this one is so well done, I adore it. Thanks for sharing. I specifically love, part from the motif, the background, it looks like it is a map that has been used?
Yes. It is a map and a map of Texas of course, home of lots of longhorns. I gelled the map in place and let it dry on a piece of hardboard before I started the collage. I'm glad you like it, Ann Katrins. Most of the papers were hand painted - with a few postage stamps, old book pages, etc.
