Self Portrait Nancy Standlee ~ Watercolor and Gouache

'Nancy Self Portrait'
6 x 9 in.
Watercolor and Gouache
140 lb hot press paper

The photograph was taken on a painting holiday at Port Bolivar, TX. and the scarf covered bad beach hair before dining with my collaborative painting group, Canvas by Canvas.

I began the painting in my first Donna Zagotta workshop but never finished it to my liking. I gave it some hot licks today after taking my second Zagotta workshop last week and remembering I never liked how the eyes looked. I did leave off the glasses and wrinkles and about 30 years.

Check out Self Portrait Global Love In Challenge #2 on David Lobenberg's blog and join in the fun. Artists send him a self portrait (read his rules) and he will post them. I emailed him this painting tonight to sushi3@mac.com.
I found David's site by way of Myrna Wacknov and Carol Marine. http://carolmarine.blogspot.com. These artists' portraits with some type of head gear on will be posted after September 12. This sounds like fun so get your favorite hats and grab a friend with a camera and start snapping. Texas needs some good representation with cowboy hats.

Nancy you look like an artist in this self portrait. Not that you don't normally look like an artist but this is so colorful and the scarf adds an artistic touch.

Thanks Margie. I've always enjoyed head wraps and hats.

Yup I sent mine in yesterday too. Both of the "candidates" for the event are posted on my blog but I chose the dark purple light/dark shadow one. In the other one, I took off 30 years and all the wrinkles too. It was a hard choice as the one in the pink hat had more emotional resonance for me. But there is no place to talk about that on David's blog site so I chose the more dramatic one instead. I really like yours and the scarf is great. Well done.
