Blogs can be found on about any subject and I will refer to Google's Blogger as this is what I use. To begin, go to Google in the menu bar at the top click on More and go to Blog search. Type in your subject. For example, Elvis and you'll get about 4 million plus hits but type in Elvis Nancy Standlee and you will find the blog post I did about Elvis and portrait painting. The more narrow the search the fewer hits.
Now for the fun part. Once you find a blog you like and you want to know more about the author of that blog you will find a photo (maybe) around the About Me area and then View My Complete Profile.

Blogger's Profile feature allows users to maintain a page about themselves to help match a face with the personality that inevitably comes through in blog posts. Think of your profile as an easy way to create an "About Me" page supplemental to your blog. Browse profiles and find new blogs to read.

Profiles also feature blogging stats, interests, and links to that user's blogs. Stats such as how many profile views your page has generated (Mine 582 - so people are looking at your profile). Additionally, there are Profile Tags that will render a mini-version of your profile on your Main Page. You can edit your Profile by clicking on Edit Profile from the sidebar of your Dashboard page.

These links are now active and by clicking on one of your interests you will be able to find like minded people. Go to your profile and click on one of your active links and see how many people you find that share that particular interest, movie, or music.

For example I’m interested in painting, well, so are 37,000 more people but if I click on acrylic painting I get 101 hits, watercolor is 333 and these stats will change every minute.

I like Clint Eastwood movies and so do 128 others, but if I click on a specific title like Moonstruck, I get 2200. For music, My favorite Willie Nelson has 4600 people who listed him and Willie and Lobo has a following of 15 who appreciate their music.

Click on your location to find other bloggers are in your area. From looking at those young Arlington faces, I firmly believe I could be the matriarch of the clan.

With this linking ability added it will be a way for people to search for blogs they are interested in and to find people with the same interests but do you really want people that are interested in the same things as you are? Does diversity create more interest? I look forward to that time you can search with multiple entries, such as city and movies and interest.

The Browse Profile results are tuned to show you people who have recently updated their blogs at the top, so you can find blogs with fresh posts.

Elvis Week has passed but I've found this wonderful video that shows the younger crowd some of his appeal when he was young and wowing all the girls. Wikipedia has more information on Poke Salad. I remember my grandmother picking it at certain times of the year and being very careful as it could be harmful if eaten or prepared incorrectly.

The painting, Dancers of Antiquity, reminds me of the hyper linking that is continuing today in the form of these social networks when the next click may bring you a new friend.

Good news for my laptop traveling friends and good news this morning for those living along the Thames. Free access is open to a Wi-Fi hot spot for about a 13 mile stretch in London. Yoo-Hooo!
The painting is of two friends enjoying a special moment while shopping. Shopping for what? That’s for you to decide. Maybe it’s for some of those really Sassy high heels they’ve heard about at the Canvas by Canvas site or leaf-green limes, maybe mangoes or lemons. Or they might be conversing about PageRank and it’s importance to a beginning blogger. See more about PageRank with our friend Mr. Wiki at Wikipedia.
Google assigns a numeric weighting from 0-10 for each webpage on the Internet; this PageRank denotes your site’s importance in the eyes of Google. The Google Toolbar has a symbol to show PageRank. The Google Toolbar's PageRank feature displays a visited page's PageRank as a whole number between 0 and 10. The most popular websites have a PageRank of 10. The least have a PageRank of 0. I have a Google Toolbar and I’ve never know the meaning of that little horizontal bar – looks a little like a horizontal thermometer. So now as I find out more about it, I’m curious about everyone's PageRank since I don’t even have the slightest smidge of leaf green color in my little themometer. I have zero page rank. Ohhhhh! I’d like to have at least 1 little piece of leaf green to show.
There are several theories on how to get PageRank. Go to one of my favorite places to look for answers at Peter Chen for Blogger Tips and Tricks and type in PageRank in his search bar. His site has a PageRank of 5 – way to go PC.

If you don’t have a Google toolbar and don’t want one, (can’t imagine why you wouldn’t) here is a site, Top 25 Web, (PageRank 6) to search for a web or blog's url to see their PageRank.
For example: I looked for Amazon (PR 9) and Dick Blick (PR 7) – 2 of my most used searches and sites and where most of my expendable income ends up for books and art supplies and listed on my side bar for your convenience of shopping.
Yes, you know I had to search out Google’s PageRank and are you surprised? Yep, it’s a 10, after all, it’s their deal. It’s amazing how popular they have become and most people know exactly what you mean when you say, "Oh, just Google her or him or it…"
My bet is when our Calypso Market shoppers pass a Wi-Fi hot spot; they will stop and check their PageRank.

Saturday Synchronicity

I had not planned to post today but a little Saturday Synchronicity intervened. Today I’ve joined a group of 149 painters, Daily Painters Marketplace, who are interested in sharing their art. Talented groups of artist’s band together to share their love of art and develop a market for sales. If this is a new concept to you, Google “daily painting” and you will be amazed to find 86,000 results. Will our works be found? We hope so and we hope you will subscribe to our daily painting email feed. If life gets in the way, as life is prone to do, I may not post daily but daily is the goal. If I’m not actively posting, be sure I’ll be planning the next post. Today I did have a mysterious lady waiting for the synchronicity. And daily I agree with Georges Braque “With age, art and life become one”.
