It's been a long time (for me) since the last post, November 23, but get ready as you will probably get tired of me posting so often in the next 30 days or that is the plan. I've decided to join Leslie Saeta in her 30 paintings/30 days project. No promises that I will finish it but I'm starting it anyway. (And I was a little amused in her blog post that she suggested we spend an HOUR getting our studios organized..only an hour..? surely you jest?)
My plans are to paint small, 6x6 inches, and sell them for $75 with $7 shipping and handling and maybe some 5x7, or 8x10 - $100 (special prices for this challenge) and they will be posted on my online gallery at Daily Paintworks HERE. So what to paint and what would be a good idea? As the time gets closer to begin I've been giving this a lot of thought. If you're excited about it, then it's a good idea and try to make it interesting, maybe something you haven't seen before. I thought I might start with some florals that I had painted larger and do a smaller version while working on some color notes. I have a huge box of floral photographs in the Sterilite box that is used for CD storage and I have lots of these boxes categorized with different subjects. 

I don't promise I'll do thirty but I want to begin the challenge as I think it will teach me more about paintng while connecting with the artist community and an opportunity for some fun times. 

Title:
I'm reading the short book, "The Last Flowers of Manet", @1986 Andrew Forge. It shows 16 small floral bouquets painted during the last months of his life. It is thought these might be flowers visitors would bring and he'd paint them later. Many consider Manet to be the first modern artist and he painted these between 1881 and 1883 and the order is not known but in the book they grouped them by the shape of the vase. All the arrangements are in glass vases. During this period of decline, Manet's spirits revived at the sight of flowers. 
This painting is a revision of a rose that I began in a Nancy Medina workshop in November that was never finished and I thought why not try to revive it. The setup was with a little Christmasy red bowl and it was started in a horizontal format but after I studied it from all angles I decided to reorient the painting and use a palette knife for some heavy texture.
