Several years ago (2006) I took a portrait painting class over the weekend with Steve Barry and I worked on this piece, put it away and found it again. I had painted on too much blue eye shadow in a fit of intuitive color choices so I removed some, changed the background from a rust to a red, got it too red, liked the Southwest rust better, so reworked it so I could get some color variation and signed it. (No wrinkles, no glasses, no problem). I used it on my home page of my updated web site Nancy Standlee . I love the hat and it does make a statement. The brim is so large it causes single file walking.

This is like a professional "online Rolodex" to keep track of your colleagues and art friends, make new connections and send out announcements. I've spent most of the day getting my profile set up, adding applications and deleting them and trying something else and posted a weak little "We're woking on a zebra collaboration".
If you are on LinkedIn, let's connect. I'm still learning how this social network is constructed and may not have enough time to update often but the idea is appealing to connect with other artists. This is one of the 9 pieces scheduled to be shown at the Fort Worth Preservation is the Art of the City show in September. The link will give dates and details.
If you take the American Art Collector magazine, look on page 103 as the Daily Painters Abstract Gallery has a full page ad and you can see a thumbnail of my painting, "Shop Talking".
The collaborative group I'm a member of, Canvas by Canvas, has their great red truck painting on the top row. Kimberly Conrad of Centennial, Co. has invited us to join her blog, Daily Painters Abstract Gallery, and this is one of her marketing ideas. Other Canvas by Canvas members who have joined the gallery are Connie Michael, Maryann Stephens, Betty Taylor, and Margie Whittington. We are planning on submitting more work in future issues which as brought up a problem.

It has needed a major overhaul for some time as work and events change. I have been dreading it as my memory had become a little foggy on the best way to handle it. For the past two days I've devoted most of the day and evening trying to update my site and work out the bugs I create. I use Yahoo SiteBuilder and armed with the Yahoo!SiteBuilder for Dummies book I have updated my web site. And yes it took a few calls to our web site designer for CBC, Betty Taylor and Yahoo has a great suppost group to call for help. But I've got my pages saved and have added some new work but some pages are still under construction but it won't be long before I fill them up. Please take a look and let me know if you find an error or a bad link. I tried something new (for me) I found on Robert Burridge's site and I used it on the "Friends and Lovers" paintings, once you click on a large painting it will take you to the next painting without going to the forward arrow. I still have to add meta tags and page properties but I've a good start for all of those viewers checking out my web site after seeing the American Art Collector ad. Get your magnifying glass out and see if you can find my name in the ad.

I've been busy painting entries for the "Preservation is the Art of the City" show September 11-26, 2009 at the Community Arts Center, Fort Worth, TX, and this show is free and open to the public. Fifty local artists were juried to exhibit in this show and have the choice to exhibit one or up to 9 paintings each. A portion of the sales will help fund preservation programming for Historic Fort Worth. I hope you can visit the show.
"Charms and Legends" is one of the entries for the show. I like the abstracted colorful figures and have been painting more in a similar series.

Love is in the air in the metroplex. Does your life experiences influence your paintings? Mine do and this summer I've heard a lot of boyfriend, romance, wedding and shower talk and visited some bridal stores, bought some silvery paper and ribbons and searched my closet for appropriate clothes for these occasions.

My 1954 graduating class met Friday night in De Leon and the talk still turns to old loves and graduation dates and it seems we never stop picking those daisy petals and wondering "He Loves me, He Loves Me Not."

This painting will be in the 2010 Fine Art in Dallas Engagement Book, a comprehensive book of local artists' work and the book will go to homes, art galleries, realtors and there will be scheduled exhibitions and artist events during the year. The City Art Calendar will be available in the fall and I will keep you posted.

This whimsical figure is one in a series I've called "Lylas". I don't have a sister but share a close association with 7 members of Canvas by Canvas and I refer to them as "my sisters" and we often sign our emails with "lylas". One in the group suggested I name the paintings from the group so my list is expanding to family and other friends. This one is named for a family member.
I've painted 4 in a new series for the miniature section (under 14 in.) for the "Preservation is the Art of the City" show September 11-26, 2009 at the Community Arts Center, Fort Worth, TX, free and open to the public. This painting is one of my entries for the Preservation is the Art of the City Show September 11-26 at the Community Arts Center. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Fifty local artists are selected to participate by a jury and a portion of sales will help fund preservation programming for Historic Fort Worth. I am working on 9 entries for this show and the above is the largest.

Winsor & Newton New Acrylics
W & N has developed a new line of acrylics that does not color shift from wet to dry. They are using a translucent binder when wet and it dries clear. The paints remain workable 20% longer than the Finity brand and they are not in the U.S. yet but watch for them. While you're on that home page be sure and click on the red paint spot near the bottom to enter a painting in their competition. You might win some art supplies. No jury here just other artists voting for their favorite painting. At the present my entry is on this page but click to see her because her head is cut off a little bit. This phase closes Sept. 30 and then you can enter again. The best view of the painting is click below on the You Can Vote for them here! link.

Canvas by Canvas artists met Monday at our rented gallery space and continued with our recent abstract commission which will be the largest collaborative painting we've done. There will be 9 16x20" rectangles. My portion above is the bottom row, far left and watch for it on our CBC web site. The image may change somewhat after all the rectangles are finished and our client may have some suggestions as to some finishing touches.
