Plein Air Oil Workshop Fredericksburg, TX with Guido Frick by Texas Artist Nancy Standlee

 LBJ Sheep 15020
8x10 Oil
on Ampersand Gessobord
Available on Daily Paintworks

I took a plein air oil workshop with Guido Frick in Fredericksburg TX November 9-13 to really stretch myself as I don't paint plein air. This landscape was painted on Friday at the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm on the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park in Stonewall. I tried putting in two sheep but they really looked like a cross between a pig and a dog so when I got home I took one of my photos and printed it so I could more closely study how a sheep really looks and besides they just didn't want to stand still. This one was very friendly with Guido. I would recommend Guido's workshop if you are interested in impressionist oils. He will teach in the U.S. in 2016. He's also on Facebook if you'd like to follow his current treks and paintings.

Traveling with wet paintings
This really works. I'd heard about it before but this time after Guido discussed it more thoroughly I gave it a try and it's an easy way to travel in a car with wet oil paintings. Place push pins in the corners and secure with Duct tape. Different sizes can be used if they have a common edge size. Place painted sides together.

You are invited Friday evening 6:30-8:30 Nov. 20 for the reception for the unveiling of the stars painted for the city of Arlington. http://arlingtonmuseum.org/
And Third Degree Art has a painting or two to show with it.

Star of Texas, "Nest Among the Stars", Arlington Museum of Art Project

#starofTexas Front "Nest Among the Stars" Acrylic on fiberglass sculpture 6' x 6'

#starofTexas Back "Nest Among the Stars" Acrylic on fiberglass sculpture 6' x 6'

The Third Degree group of collaborative painters, Connie Michael, Karen Foster and I finished "Nest Among the Stars" 9/22/2015 and now it awaits a clearcoat before being installed in downtown Arlington, to be auctioned off in 3 years. This is one of 20 stars for Arlington, the American Dream City, a public art project to promote the city with the Arlington Museum of Art.

Our small group has had so much fun painting this expressive floral that we are now painting on a large 48"x48" canvas with variations of this design for commission work.

Our star and paintings are painted with professional acrylic paints and Home Depot in north Arlington provided some of the Behr paints we used on the star. Thank you Lenny Gaspard, district manager for all your support.

Acrylic Mixed Media Painting, Floral, One for the Stars by Texas Artist Nancy Standlee

One for the Stars
20x20x3/4"
acrylic mixed media
First post in awhile and I'd like to share some projects. This is the newest acrylic mixed media painting and the flowers have lots of texture, and the 3/4" sides are painted a gray. It is a prototype of a large 6ft star that two friends and I are working on for a city wide art project. We three began work today on a 48"x48" piece similar to the painting above and we will be taking commissions. More to come.
Our first star that I will discuss will be unveiled Thursday and painted by the Canvas by Canvas group and I'll post it and mention more about the process.

Apples and More Apples, Acrylic Still Life for the OPOMAC Gallery Show in Graham TX

Apples 14071

More Apples 14072
Available on Daily Paintworks

The above two paintings were painted in the Patti Mollica workshop in November at the Carmel Visual Arts Center in Carmel, CA. I had really thought I had made reservations at Clint Eastwood's Mission Ranch Inn but sadly I got my motels mixed up and after I realized it, it was for the best because his was a little more $$ than I had in my budget.. maybe next trip. Here was my lovely motel The Carmel Mission Inn and the name was very similar.  I had hopes of finding him loading up the Coke machine or sitting at the bar. (Rich from Visual Arts said Patti will return in October for another workshop. hmmm?) I didn't have enough time this trip to explore around Carmel like I wanted as I had scheduled another workshop with Leslie Saeta the following day.
These paintings will be at the OPOMAC Old Post Office Museum and Art Center in Graham, TX for the next 6 weeks along with my friends from Canvas by Canvas. We'd like you to pay our exhibit a visit if you are in the area.

The artists of Canvas by Canvas will be exhibiting their personal paintings at the Graham Old Post Office Museum and Art Center from January 17, 2015, through February 28th, with artwork themed around Food, Glorious Food!  All paintings will reflect the theme with scenes of food and drink items. The exhibit will also include 2 or 3 of the Canvas by Canvas group's collaborative paintings relating to the theme. The month-long event will kick off with a reception from 6 to 8 PM on the evening of Saturday, January 17th, and everyone is invited.

Here are two more Journal Pages for my Daily Journal, pages 3, 4 and 5.

I'm trying to keep count of my calories with app, My Fitness Pal and reading the Bible with app YouVersion. I like them both but most of January has been taken with getting ready for the gallery show. The cross hatch is personal info about a friend.

Fuyu Persimmons and Apple Acrylic Paintings for the Old Post Office Museum and Art Center in Graham, TX and a New Journal by Texas Artist Nancy Standlee

 Green Apple and Strawberries 14073
8x10 framed in a 3" plein air gold frame acrylic

  Fuyu Persimmon 14076
8x10 framed in a 3" plein air gold frame acrylic

Two more acrylic paintings for the upcoming show in Graham, Texas. I'm preparing paintings for a group show at the Old Post Office Museum and Art Center in Graham, Texas.
Both of the above paintings were done in Carmel CA in November at the Carmel Visual Arts Center in the acrylic workshop with Patti Mollica.
As I am getting ready, varnishing and framing, and wiring I now have approximately 50 different sizes to bring to the show along with my painting peeps from Canvas by Canvas. The painting below was done by the painting friends of CBC.
Journal Pages:
Journal pages tie into some of my New Years Resolutions. I wanted to keep track of food eaten and began a separate journal of all food eaten and that got boring right quick so I decided to incorporate food into my daily journal and maybe add one food from the day and keep account of calories eaten with the app My Fitness Pal with the hope of some 2015 weight loss..(so far not so good as some time during the day it gets to non thinking stress eating). Another resolution I wanted to read the Bible through this year by using a plan for the iPad called the YouVersion and I've decided to add some image from the day's passage. I may have to add an art supply or anything else that happens in my day. The crosshatched areas are about a friend with some health issues. This journal is a Strathmore Visual Journal and a mixed media 9x12. I like it and I am using a Lamy Joy with Brown Noodlers Ink.
