Painting Plein Air in Oil in Virginia and Watercolor Beach Painting, Dreams of the Turtle King, Flip Flop Farmer 13090

This was painted on our last day in the Leslie Saeta plein air, oil, palette knife workshop in Sandbridge VA but we were in the Pungo community. They were so kind to let us hang out there and even watched our "stuff" while we got a pizza for lunch and returned to finish up the day. I had posted this without success with the beach house wifi and then came home and gave it a few hot licks and will post again.  Then I've giving my readers a blog break for a few days and taking one myself. This has been a busy and fun 30 days of painting and posting each day.

 I am in the process of painting 24 watercolor illustrations for a book of poems, Dreams of the Turtle King, by Denise Bossarte and all the poems will be about the beach. The book should be ready for publication in December. Buffet is all about seagulls and I think of them in the air more than in the water but here they are having lunch. End of the Leslie Saeta 30/30 Challenge, Collage of Paintings Completed, and Hedi Moran in GA in November, and Dreams of the Turtle King Watercolor Beach Paintings and Illustrations by Texas Daily Painter Nancy Standlee

This painting is an illustration for a book of poems, Dreams of the Turtle King, written by Denise Bossarte that should be available on Amazon around first of December, 2013.  Denise is a Texas photographer and a member of Artists of Texas. 
This is the cover illustration for the book with Denise's vision of a sea turtle with an orange coral crown. I decided this sea turtle needed some glitz and I've had three sets of metallic, pearlescent, and interference paints by MicaColor that I've finally used and love the result. The instructions say you can mix with regular watercolor but I used these straight from the round palettes and in layers for an opaque look. To see and read about them, check HERE.
 It is hard to get a true photo of the shiny paints but I think when it is professionally scanned the colors will be more true. Denise is the owner of this painting.  I'm working on these each day, posting them on my Daily Paintworks Gallery and website and Facebook, sending them to Denise to be scanned, and matting in a 14x11 mat and shipping when sold, and allow 2 weeks for the painting to be mailed if you purchase.

It has been a challenge to paint and post each day and she may be planning another in January so if you are interested, add it to your bucket list.

This is illustration No. 6 and I will have 18 more to do. I'm working on these each day, posting them on my Daily Paintworks Gallery and website and Facebook, sending them to Denise to be scanned, and when the illustrations are returned I will mat in a 14x11 mat and ship when sold, and allow 2 weeks for the painting to be mailed if you purchase. The first 5 are on the way to Houston to be scanned.

One more day for the 30/30 and are you planning a special post. I think I'll post the painting of the cover of the book of poems. Wonder what the image will be?

Sandbridge Apples 13078 Leslie Saeta Workshop Day 1 by Texas Artist Nancy Standlee

(Well I was in Virginia Beach and Sandbridge  and for some reason - because of wifi that was a little wonky.. this was never posted and now I'm home doing watercolor illustrations for a book of poetry but I'm proud of my palette knife oil plein air apples.)
I'm in Virginia Beach painting with Leslie Saeta in a plein air workshop but it was a little windy yesterday so we stayed close to the beach house and painted apples around the swimming pool under a covered porch in Sandbridge VA.

It doesn’t have to be a finished piece but some piece of art each day. On some of the larger commission pieces I have posted portions over a 3 day period. On the smaller pieces I can do one a day.

An ArtByte is a small online tutorial that may be free or it's very affordable. Mine will be very affordable at $10.00 and it's loaded with information . The teenage couple on the beach:
This is an interesting and a new project for me, reading the written words in a poem and translating the images and stories that develop into an image on paper. The words here that called to me were teenage, skateboard, girl and sleeping bag. When you read the poem maybe you will "see" another image from a different line in the poem.

I think she is planning another one in January and I would suggest you get to painting!

Tuesday first day in the Sandbridge Leslie Saeta palette knife, oil, plein air workshop and it was pretty windy so we painted around the swimming pool of the beach house. John, Dodi, and Nan with Leslie in the background.

Wednesday the weather was perfect for beach painting and here is Leslie showing us how to paint a "beach person". This was a great opportunity for me to take lots of beach photos for the watercolor illustrations I will be working on during October.
