The title is from text from a crossword puzzle and the very base background is an old TX map but it has been covered in several layers. Music covers the edges and I worked on this while docent duties at the LGAA Saturday June 9 in Granbury.
I've never been to Arles but I'm a big fan of Vincent Van Gogh's works. He produced over 300 paintings and drawings while in Arles, including Starry Night. Van Gogh is probably better known generally than any other painter and many can relate as he didn't start until later in life but he died at age 37 and sold few paintings during his lifetime. I've read Letters to Theo and have an Amazon order on the way now for The Yellow House by Gaylord, details on 9 weeks in Arles with Gauguin. It should make for a good summer read about how they worked and what inspired them.

I get inspired by having collage papers where I can find them and I've developed several methods of dealing with so much paper, hand painted and found papers. Here are two methods I use, a plastic bin with drawers and I can sort by a color category and a smaller version of little labeled tubs I found at Garden Ridge. These are for the hand painted papers. Later I'll post the magazine papers. I'm posting these because I love seeing inside artists' studios (a legal way to be a peeping Tom?)

I really like these as they stack and I've labeled them with color names.

Some close up views of the above collage:
The sides are from a very old music book, circa 1915 and pages are very brittle and some text below is from foreign language newspapers and stamped hand painted papers.

This is the foundation painting before I began the gluing process and I changed my mind on the color scheme after the process began which is always permissible.

I recently sold this torn paper collage from the Daily Paintworks Gallery and DPW has a special promotion now "Artist Spotlight and Giveaway" that IF you purchase a painting from the DPW site within the last 30 days you are eligible to enter 4 times in the giveaway. Each week a different DPW artist will give away one of their best paintings. Go to the homepage and click on the icon at the left to read more about it HERE.http://www.dailypaintworks.com/
