Pansy Painting with the Peeps, 8x8" oil, and a Journaling Workshop at Dutch Art Gallery, Dallas, TX by Texas Artist Nancy Standlee

 Pansies 13052
Oil on 8x8 cradled hardboard, no frame needed
Available at my online gallery at Daily Paintworks click HERE.

Side View of the 3/4" cradled panel by my fading pansies. This one is made by Jack Richeson and can be hung flush against the wall over two nails without wire or hardware. It makes a very nice presentation with natural sides.

The painting in progress with the transparent colors placed and before any of the opaques were added. This is the way I learned in the Carmel workshop with Dreama Tolle Perry and since some friends and I have signed up for another one this summer, this was our Dreama practice with some pansies from my yard.

I'm busy journaling each day and practicing for my one day watercolor art journal workshop at the Dutch Art Gallery. Read about it on my website at Http://nancystandlee.com

A Journaling Day with Family and a One Day Love Your Life Art Journaling Workshop by Texas Artist Nancy Standlee

Pages 20, 21 from my art journal Strathmore watercolor 90 lb. 9x12. On page 20 it was a Mother's Day to remember eating at Joe T Garcias in Fort Worth with family and I cut out their initials and added some personal notes. On page 21,  books ordered, food eaten and I've been following Leslie Saeta's blog about Marketing your art and then making those notes in my journal.
Page 24, 25 trying to walk some, a big collage project was delivered and there will be a separate post about this later. My first meeting with the client was June 21, 2012. A second try on a water fountain at Veteran's Park on a sketch out with friends, note made about a great movie (DVD) Silver Linings Playbook  and this is a must see movie and planning for Thursday for the family workshop.

Pages 26, 27 gives some new apps Leslie recommends, a good healthy brunch, and my friend gave me a desktop calendar page about "you might be a redneck if none of your houseplants are intentional" and sorry to say I have some of those growing through my yellow kitchen blinds. When do I have time to do yard work? or when do I want to is a better question, and more marketing tips about your Facebook fan page and while I'm thinking about my fan page IF you haven't liked my page I invite you to like it at http://facebook.com/nancystandleefineart.
Now for the good page about yesterday that was so special. Cindy in the blue blouse below has had a birthday and had expressed an interest in watercolor journaling. I volunteered to teach a one day workshop for her at my daughter, Dana's home and two of the grands were there, Meaghen and Courtney. I brought them gifts of journals, water brushes and travel sets. I also brought loads of my journals to share to give them more ideas. On my page 27 I posted the cup I like to use to kick off my workshops and they made their first entry. I'd stopped at Sam's Club on the way and loaded up with a roasted chicken, Rainbow tortellini, fresh mozzarella balls, strawberries and grapes plus some sliced cake for dessert. We just had a great girly lunch, hanging out and having fun. I made some little notes of comments said during the day like Cindy "Where did you find strawberries the size of Texas?" Dana can now be called an official artist as she quickly dipped her brush in her tea instead of her water. I showed Courtney some old sketches from 2002 that she had drawn in my journal and she said, "Grannie, this figure has noddle legs." Meaghen said "Mom, I haven't seen you sit this long in forever." Even 10 year old Grace got in the mix when she got home from school. She got her a Dr. Pepper, found her journal and drew her can. I failed to get a photo.

My precious class after our lunch. Courtney was introduced to Dick Blick and Cheap Joe catalogs and I told them about the Facebook group they might like to join Artist's Journal Workshop.

Cindy is a natural. She was concerned about her drawing. I told her to forget it. A pianist doesn't play well the first time at the piano but after years of practice and so it is with drawing. You learn to draw by drawing. Cindy, we all enjoyed your birthday and hope you enter a year full of memories in your new journal. All the above girls are great garage sale junkies and I know they will come up with some great finds to add to their journaling supplies.

Here is a link to my one day watercolor journaling "Love Your Life" workshop in Dallas at the Dutch Art Gallery.
If you are a beginner in watercolor journaling this class will introduce you to some materials and methods to record some moments from your day. No drawing experience is necessary.

Texas Tulips 13050, Tulip Oil Painting, Visual Language Magazine, Marketing with Leslie Saeta, Reboot with Joe, Watercolor Skechbook and Art Journal Workshop, "Love Your Life" Dutch Art, by Arlington Texas Artist Nancy Standlee

 Texas Tulips 13050
12x12" Oil on Ampersand Gessobord Panel

In February I attended a 3 day Dreama Tolle Perry workshop in Carmel Indiana and you can read about it here on my blog. I've since sold two of the paintings from that workshop and loved painting the tulips so yesterday I painted this with 3 friends, Maryann, Karen and Connie. There was a slow, gentle rain and Karen's studio windows were open and it made the day very special painting with dear friends and a Boo Boo Food Shop lunch break. I usually travel alone to workshops as others have husbands to tend to but in June we are all traveling together for the Dreama workshop in Lexington, KY and the peeps wanted a Dreama lesson before the trip. I showed them handouts and notes and Maryann furnished the tulips. Karen's neighbor furnished the blue Ball jar and we arranged tulips, took photos and set the flowers in the center of the table to paint. We are all four looking forward to the real deal in Kentucky.

I'm participating in the Leslie Saeta 30 Marketing Ideas in 30 Days and on Day 9 HERE we were asked to show the steps to our painting and post on her site. Here is the steps where I put in all the transparent colors.

Dr. Oz and Joe Cross and the 3 day Juice Cleanse. If you are wanting to jump start your health this is an very interesting movie, 90 minutes and it's free, "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. I've been juicing (or blending as I have a Blendtec blender) for 3 days but eating a small meal in the evening prompting me to start another journal. I'm recording some of my favorite meals and recipes and the juice recipes Joe Cross gave. This eggplant was prompted by a Mark Bittman recipe on Dr. Oz here and he served it with polenta.

 Aquabee 93# paper 6x9 sketchbook

Visual Journal 9x12 sketchbook showing some my days in May (going to the Cottonwood Art Festival, getting new pens, making notes of quotes and sales, giving a collage talk in Hurst to the Mid Cities Fine Artists at the St. Philip Presbyterian Church, Marketing tips, painting the tulips and a new book came, Drawing and Sketching Secrets by Donna Krizek).

I am honored to be one of the featured artists in the Visual Language magazine HERE.
The whole issue can be seen HERE.

Reminder: It's not too late to sign up for the one day Journaling class June 29 at the Dutch Art Gallery. Read more about it on my website or sign up HERE.

Admit Two, Acrylic Figurative Painting with Collage, Part 2 in the Love Your Life Art Journal , Carrie Waller Interview, Marketing Class and a Sketchbook Class by Arlington Texas Artist Nancy Standlee

Admit Two 13942
14x11 in. Acrylic Figurative Impressionist Painting with Collage and Graphite

One of the last of the figurative pieces painted at the Robert Burridge workshop at the Wenmohs Ranch the first of April. This one is more mysterious and causes questions to be asked.

Carrie Roets-Waller has a blog and she has a Friday feature interviewing artists and has honored me by posting my interview with some paintings today. To read it click HERE. Carrie was interviewed on the Leslie Saeta show on Blog Talk Radio and you can hear this award winning watercolor artist HERE.http://artistshelpingartistsblog.blogspot.com/2012/04/conversation-with-crystal-cook-and.html
She is also featured in the June 2013 Watercolor Artist Magazine on page 55 with an honorable mention with her glass jar painting "Anticipation. What a beautiful painting. Congrats, Carrie and thanks again for giving me some space on your very interesting blog.

Speaking of Leslie Saeta, have you joined her free 30 Marketing Ideas in 30 Days? Join 300 of us and let's sell some paintings.  Our Day Two assignment was to post an older favorite painting that is still available for sale on her blog, on Facebook with a link to where it could be purchased. I did and here is the painting and the link to Daily Paintworks. I always like an impressionist floral.

I have become obsessive about Artists sketchbook journaling again and have joined Cathy Johnson's group on Facebook, Artists Journal Workshop and I'm enjoying posting some of my journal pages.  See my website for workshop information about the June one day class I'm teaching in Dallas.
Here are some recent journal pages:
See below for Journal type, Pages 8 and 9, Some purchases, a sketch outing, a collage demo, and a Trader Joe's trip for some wine. Trader Joe says "Life is too short to drink bad wine!"
Journal Page, Page 10, 11, Strathmore Visual Journal 90 lb, 68 pages 9x12.

My new online friend, Kathie, asked about where I got my painting hat that was in a previous post causing some research and a journal entry. The stamps I found in the blue can from years ago and now it's a pencil can. If there is a personal note I will cover it with a sticky for the photo. I sketched the Maxpedition fatty pocket organizer I'm using for my backpack/purse.  See below.

Part 2 Love Your Life Supply List Detail
Recently I posted about some favorite art journals and in this post I will discuss the best way to carry these or maybe not the best way, just the way I'm doing it at the present. When I took the recent 2 day Don Getz workshop he was using the bag that came with the Eric Michaels En Plein Air Pro. (I don't think this bag is available and he has changed the name on some of these easels. Mine is several years old). I had all of my things in a Dick Blick canvas bag and had a Michaels bag at home so removed the easel and now have put my supplies in it.The 9x12 sketchbook journals fits in it perfectly. Brenda Swenson uses a bag similar to the Blick bag she gets at Harbor Freight. I always like to have some supplies with me at all times in my backpack/purse so I'm upgraded to a Maxpedition Fatty Pocket Organizer in a Khaki color. I've used about everything from fanny packs to zippered children's insulated lunch kits.  (The children's kits have great designs, cupcakes, peace signs).
