Pablo Picasso said "I begin with an idea and then it becomes something else." That is exactly what happened in the above painting. I've forgotten how it began other than adding lots of texture. It ended up looking like a Spanish lady and when I Googled Spanish Lady I found the Celtic Woman group singing this on YouTube and in the lyrics it mentions her silver comb. I used Lascaux Perlacryl Iridescent Acrylics along with regular acrylics and it makes it very difficult to photograph but gives the painting a different metallic pearl look. I've had these paints for years and never know how to use them.
Today I'm putting a coat of protective varnish on the painting to take to the Art in the Park show Saturday at the Arlington Highlands.

The Arlington Highlands and F6 Gallery presents Art in the Park. The event features over 100 various artists from the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex combined with the retailers of Arlington Highlands to offer the community a great day of fun for all to entertain. We have been given a parking space to set up and a table and a chair and that's probably what my space will be. There won't be any selling but a day of browsing and visiting. There may be some wind so we're already been advised to bring some rocks. I'm not an outdoor show kind of gal so this should be interesting but I invite anyone out in the area to stop by and say hello. In the booth next to mine, 134, will be Canvas by Canvas so we will get some peep time. Come anytime from 12:00 to 5:00 PM.

These two paintings were painted at the Robert Burridge Workshop in Mendocino, California. See previous posts during October 1 - 5, 2007. They are repeated here with the price and size information included. We drew and painted the undraped figure for 4 days and I took a lot of artistic license with the models.
Hurray! Hooray! Hurrah! I've won a Myrna Wacknov drawing because 5 of the people I've recommended have signed up for her blog. She wants to build a blog base and I took up the gauntlet. It will be fun to see what happens in this little drawing/painting community with encouragements all around. Last weeks challenge was a continuous line drawing (no crossovers, etc.) that will post Friday. That was hard and I know I don't want to be a wire sculptress. I may try to incorporate the drawing into a painting. To subscribe to her Creativity Journal blog, on the right hand side after the "About me" profile is a subscribe blank to type in your email address and she will not share your address. The Sketchbook bugaboo.
Thanks to the influence of Myrna and my recent workshops, I'm trying again to carry - no make that draw in - my sketchbooks. I carry them everywhere now. I've put a small Moleskin (3 1/2 x 5 1/2) in my purse, filled one of my Mexican bags to leave in the car, with an Aquabee 6 x 9 with all the other supplies, small palette, water, brushes. (Most of these items can be purchased through Dick Blick and you can click on the icon on the right side of my blog to look for these sketchbooks.) This summer I even purchased a special folding chair and table to carry with me to stop and paint a scene somewhere. I never slowed down long enough to take the chair out much less sketch a scene and most of the time I was scurrying to find some air conditioning. I have a small Borders journal type that I keep by my kitchen chair to cut out pictures and glue in and make a fast little drawing about an ad or an interesting photo...like faces of Barry Corbin or Willie Nelson or girls with flowers in their hair. I have several 9 x 12 Canson all media sketchbooks I take on trips and glue in mementos, draw and paint in. When on travel, before blogging, I'd go back to the "dwelling" and work in my journal...now it's take your laptop and blog. So with all that said, I have a new resolve to try and sketch in my journal more and we'll all meet at Myrna's for sharing and encouragement.

Yes, Margie I agree, “Nancy and the Bloggernuts” sounds like a Saturday morning cartoon. She may be referring to a hint I sent yesterday from morning research I did for getting traffic to your blog. I think others might like to have this information also.
1. Pinging connects or notifies a number of services that update and track your blog by crawling and indexing your site to help increase your blog’s popularity. Why would you want to be "pinged"? In May 2007, blog search engine Technorati was tracking more than 71 million blogs.

2. This service, Pingoat, will ping several services at once. I tried it and so did some of the others from CBC and will it help? We’re newbie’s and we don’t know but here is how I did it. I skipped the first yellow highlighted area, scroll down to Get Started, and fill in your information. I left Xml blank because I didn’t know what it was. This is a little confusing when they say ( Click category title to Select all ;-) You click on GENERAL and all the ones below are checked. I did not check non-English nor Special and then GO PINGOAT!

No guarantees it will work. It’s just what I did. Why? I think blogs are
changing the landscape and I want to be a part of it.

What do you see in this painting exhibited today? Do you see a mysterious lady with wings, an angel perhaps or a figure surrounded by a very colorful sky? I thought of an angel, a supernatural being, a guardian acting as God’s messenger to man. I scraped into the surface with the end of the brush and color shaper tools, splattered paint, and generally just got messy with the painting. This series is painted on a ground of white gesso on watercolor paper.
